Spirit keeper Bledsoe is taking care of business – on and off the pitch

Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe was named NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year after leading the NWSL in saves with 86 and finishing second in shutouts with nine. The award was voted on by club officials, players, media, and fans.

But Bledsoe also excelled off the pitch and proved you can multi-task and still play your sport at the highest level.

In the middle of the Spirit’s playoff push, Bledsoe added to an already impressive 2019 when she graduated from Harvard Business School’s program ‘Crossover into Business.’ The program is designed to help professional athletes extend their knowledge from just sports and into the business world. Wanting to help continue building the NWSL from a player perspective, the opportunity for Bledsoe to develop a better understanding of business’ role in sports was something that she had been waiting to do and finally got her chance in 2019.

“More for me, it’s just wanting to just keep this league sustainable,” Bledsoe said. “I feel like as a player I have a lot to offer to the management on this side of things. Because a lot of time I feel that management has good intentions but just doesn’t understand just what the lives of players are like.”

Behind the Scenes: Hitting the road for a big soccer weekend tournament

After listing the sites for the upcoming US Youth Soccer tournaments above, we got thinking – yes, we sometimes think. What should players pack for big tournaments besides a tooth brush, phone charger and soccer cleats. We stumbled across this entertaining video on soccer road trips from the YouTube channel SoccerGrlProbsVids

The list of tournaments is endless, but they all pretty much go something like this: long car rides, hotel shenanigans, mom yelling at you, being stranded on a field for 10 hours, and then another really long car ride. See if any of this (ALL) looks familiar.
