FUEL Soccer Talk: De Bruyne’s brilliance; US Youth Soccer wrap-up; the perfect boot

Passing you off to the weekend with Kevin De Bruyne

Young players (and coaches) should study Kevin De Bruyne’s ability to distribute

Kids, this is for you. Of course, coaches will want to take note and fans of the sport are more than welcome to join in – in awe. This is all about the brilliance of Kevin De Bruyne. In Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Burton in a League Cup semifinal on Wednesday, De Bruyne’s ability to make the perfect pass was on full display. City went in front after 25 minutes when a superb long ball by De Bruyne picked out Riyad Mahrez on the right flank. Mahrez cut the ball back to Sergio Aguero, who made no mistake with a first-time finish.

De Bruyne’s pass was perfectly threaded and placed right in stride and right on the foot of Mahrez.
The talented Belgian midfielder is now in his fourth season at Manchester City and also plays for the Belgian national team. In three seasons with City, De Bruyne has appeared in over 140 matches and won a Premier League title and two League Cups. He has twice been named Manchester City’s Player of the Year (2016 and 2018) and registered a league-high 16 assists for City as they clinched last season’s Premier League title.

He is considered by many as one of the top footballers in Europe and can do almost anything on the pitch. But his ability to push the ball into an open space for a teammate to run onto is as good as anyone in the sport. He not only has the vision to see an opening, but the ability to deliver the ball with perfection.

Here is a great video of De Bruyne’s best 50 passes (not including Wednesday’s beautiful ball).
