1. 2018 Major League Soccer MVP: Josef Martinez (ESPN)

Josef Martinez finished first place in the voting from a strong pool of candidates which include Wayne Rooney (4th) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (3rd).

Josef Martinez striker for Atlanta United was jubilant over the great accomplishment and when asked about the achievement this is what he had to say:

“I’m very happy because this is an award we all wanted.”

Displaying modesty and humility he also gave credit to those around him.

“It is due to a lot of work by myself, my teammates, my coaching staff and my family. I just want to thank all those people.”

Martinez has been clutch, scoring 3 goals in the playoffs which bolstered Atalanta United and led them to being crowned the Eastern Conference champions.

Martinez hadn’t not lost sight of his main accomplishment and had his eyes set on the championship. He scored a goal in the MLS Cup Finals against Portland, helping Atlanta United claim the championship.

3. US Youth Soccer National League Girls Showcase in N.C. concludes (SoccerWire)

The next showcase will occur in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. These creme of the crop teams compete in these showcases because they all have one goal in mind, the 2019 US Youth Soccer National Championships. The championships will occur in Overland Park, Kansas.

The competition in all the divisions has been fierce, culminating in the fact that the Winter Showcase will decide a majority of the seedings and outcomes in lieu of the championships.

“The first place team’s lead is two points or less in eight of the 14 divisions, and two divisions have ties at the top of the standings.”

We hope everyone had a great time at North Carolina and wish them luck in the future as well.

Do you have any recommendations for the showcases?
