FUEL Soccer Talk for 12/21: US Youth Soccer Players on Maryland Terps, N’Golo Kante Goal vs Man City, Fueling Snacks for Soccer Game

We’ve made it to the end of the week! We hope you enjoy this Friday and these stories.

1. Maryland Terps Division I Title (Maryland Youth Soccer)

A couple weeks ago, we wrote about the Maryland Terps and their NCAA Division I Title win over the Akron Zips. Among the players on the Maryland Terps team were Nick Richardson, Paul Frendach, Justin Gielen, and Brett St. Martin, all players who were also crowned 2018 US Youth Soccer National Champions earlier this year for the 18U and 19U Baltimore Celtic Christos.

“The 18-and-under Baltimore Celtic Soccer Club 00 boys and 19-and-under Baltimore Celtic SC Christos claimed their crowns on Sunday, July 29, after defeating two Far West Regional teams.”

Truly an incredible feat that has been done few times before, winning both a US Youth Soccer trophy as well as a Division I Title is no small task. The 18U players back-to-back champions when they defeated Nevada’s Downtown LVSC Academy in a 3-0 shutout. The 19U players won 2-1 over California South’s FC Golden State White.

“Maryland’s back line did not allow a goal in 450 minutes of tournament action to propel the Terrapins to their fourth national title in program history.”

We want to congratulate these four outstanding players for this achievement. They are in a truly exclusive club with these achievements.

2. N’Golo Kante rifles a goal to put Chelsea up 1-0 against Manchester City

This goal was set up by an amazing pass from David Luiz, Pedro’s first touch, and a Hazard pass. Kante finished this amazing display of teamwork with a spectacular goal.

3. Fueling Snacks to Take to Soccer Game (Eat Right)

Snacks are an important part of playing sports. One must ensure that these snacks are fueling the player rather than bogging them down. Here are some purposes that snacks serve for active children:

“Providing energy (calories) to help working muscles power through activity.
Supplying fluids for hydration and to keep the body cool.
Providing nutrients for growth and development.
Promoting recovery after hard exercise.”

-Peanut butter/Almond butter sandwiches with natural fruit jam

-Turkey and/or cheese wraps

Make sure to bring some cold water to accompany any snacks. Cold water helps lower body temperature which is necessary for athletes exerting a great deal of energy.
