Fuel Soccer Talk: Midfielder Pomykal gets rewarded for strong season; US Youth Soccer goes south; Ronaldo is rich – really rich

Paxton Pomykal’s great 2019 includes first call-up to USMNT

Paxton Pomykal has made great strides in 2019. But the bar has been raised even higher with his first call-up to the US men’s national team.

“The year’s been great to learn, grow, get a lot of minutes and learn things about my body and style of play,” the 19-year-old FC Dallas midfielder said Monday ahead of the USMNT international friendly against Uruguay (8 pm ET | FS1, Univision, TUDN) at Busch Stadium Tuesday night. “But this opportunity here is what it’s all about.”

In a breakout campaign, Pomykal has become a regular starter for first-year FC Dallas coach Luchi Gonzalez, was named an MLS All-Star for the first team and was a standout for the US at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The USMNT presents his biggest step up the ladder.

US Youth Soccer announces inaugural season of the Mid South Conference Gulf Coast Division

US Youth Soccer is excited to announce the formation and inaugural season of the Mid South Conference Gulf Coast Division. The new division will provide additional opportunities for teams in the Mid South Conference, which is one of 13 Conferences under the US Youth Soccer Leagues Program in the Multi-State Tier. The Gulf Coast Division is composed of member clubs that are located along the Gulf Coast states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and the panhandle of Florida. The Gulf Coast Division is a second tier of the Mid South Conference, developed to address the need for a competition format along the Gulf Coast.

The 2019-20 season consists of up to six teams in each age group (13U-19U) provided by the six participating clubs: Florida Elite Soccer Academy, Gulf Coast Texans Soccer Club, Hattiesburg Futbol Club, Real Athletic Development Football Club, Slidell Youth Soccer Club and South Mississippi Soccer Club. The Gulf Coast Division offers competition for boys and girls in the 13U-19U age groups for the 2019-20 season. The winner of each bracket will earn an automatic slot into the Mid South Conference Premier I Division for the following year.

The season kicked off Aug. 17 at Ashton Brosnaham Park in Pensacola, Fla. The second weekend of play will take place Sept. 14-15 at Gulfport Sportsplex in Gulfport, Miss.

Ronaldo earns 3 times more than any other player in Serie A

It pays to be good. It really pays to be Ronaldo!

Cristiano Ronaldo is earning £28million-a-year in wages at Juventus after taxes, three times what Matthijs de Ligt gets as the second highest earner in Serie A, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Juventus’ new summer signing de Ligt takes home £7.2million-a-year plus bonuses, jumping up above the likes of Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain to take up his spot behind Ronaldo.

Third spot in the list is taken up by another Serie A newcomer, Romelu Lukaku, who is getting £6.7million-a-year plus bonuses after joining Inter Milan from Manchester United this summer.
