Reign FC’s Jodie Taylor named NWSL Player of the Week

Jodie Taylor of Reign FC has been voted NWSL Player of the Week for Week 24 of the 2019 season by the NWSL Media Association. Taylor scored two goals during the week in two important wins, which ultimately clinched a playoff spot for the club. Taylor assisted the opener for Reign FC and then scored the game-winning goal in the 2-1 win over Utah Royals FC. With the game winding down, the England international connected on a volley after a headed pass from Darian Jenkins. The tally in the 86th minute sealed the home victory and put Reign FC in the driver’s seat for the remaining playoff spot.

Taylor then remained in top form during a weekend clash against Cascadia rival Portland Thorns FC. Taylor scored the opening goal in the 2-0 victory over Portland in the 27th minute after receiving a cross from teammate Theresa Nielsen from the far-right side of the field. Taylor would control the pass inside the box before firing her shot past Thorns FC goalkeeper Adrianna Franch.

Video Lesson: Better understanding of off-sides can keep you in the game

How many goals have been wiped off the board because of off-sides? How many great scoring chances are thwarted because a player was off-sides? How many games have been decided because a player was or wasn’t off-sides?

The rule is a very important part of soccer. And the better players understand the rule the better the result on the pitch. Don’t get caught off-sides and end up costing your team a goal and even a game. Here is an excellent breakdown of the off-sides rule from the US Soccer Referee Association.
