1. Holden Youth Soccer and special Olympics integrate unified sports into one HYS program (The Landmark)
Special Olympics Massachusetts and Holden Youth soccer are creating a Unified Sports team.
“In Unified Sports, teams are composed of teammates with and without intellectual disabilities in order to create friendships and promote social inclusion through sport.”
It’s great to see grassroots soccer movements across the nation reach out and create opportunities for youth who wouldn’t otherwise have accessible options for activities. Jon-Paul St. Germain, President of Holden Youth Soccer and Senior Director of Unified Sports for Special Olympics International says:
“[He’s] glad to be in a position to ensure our community youth sports organization is integrating an inclusive soccer program that benefits individuals with and without an intellectual disability.”
The organization has the goal of expanding the size and radius of these events and to further their outreach.
