Today it’s the new National Champs that have us talking, an incredible play from Lionel Messi, and we look at the results from Thanksgiving.

We’re at the start of a new week! We hope you enjoy these stories we have put together for you. Make sure to put aside some time to watch the MLS Cup this week! It will be a great matchup between Atlanta United and Portland Timbers.

1. Sunrise Sting Crowned National Champions (Florida Youth Soccer Association)

The Sunrise Sting 2000 of Florida had a match against Campton United of Illinois. Their first game finished 1-0 in favor of Campton.

“Campton started as the aggressors and almost took the lead early in the half when Claudia Najera was pulled down in the box while chasing after a long ball from Rachael Lutter.”

Najera’s penalty hit off the left post and the game continued, tied 0-0. Campton then took the lead in the 19th minute and extended that lead to 2-1 early in the second half. However, the tides turned in the 61st minute and in the 83rd minute, Sunrise tied the game 2-2.

“Turner was on the right end of a misplayed clearance by a defender. Turner spun and hit her shot from close range into the net to make it a 2-2 game.”

Sunrise Sting took the lead in the waning seconds and held off any final pushes for the win.

This game must have had people on the edge of their seats, what is the most exciting game you’ve witnessed?

2. Lionel Messi Spectacular Control and Nutmeg on Filipe Luis

Messi is truly a master of technician. You can learn so much from just watching him play. Watch the slow motion video below to see how Messi is able to control a pass. Not only does he have the soft touch, he is able to nutmeg the defender, Filipe Luis, to get right passed him.

While on the topic of Lionel Messi, the Ballon d’Or, the highest honor awarded in the game of soccer, has been largely dominated by Christiano Ronaldo and Messi for the last decade. However there are some true competitors this year in Luka ModrićMohamed Salah, and Kylian Mbappé. Modrić is currently the favorite to win, which may mark the first time someone not named Ronaldo or Messi have won the award since Kaka was the victor in 2007 (Ronaldo finished second and Messi third). This year is also the inaugural year for the female Ballon d’Or, tune in to see the first ever winner.

Who do you think is coming away with the Ballon d’Or grand prize?
